The successful candidate will be central to enabling continued R&D test and development activities and the transfer of the tested products into a production environment. This role would be well suited to a hands-on individual who has knowledge of the fundamentals of optics as well as data capture and analysis techniques.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the R&D Physicist to assemble, test, analyse, and report on new opto-mechanical product developments.
  • Create and establish test setups, prepare test specifications and documentation.
  • Leverage understanding of optical systems to make suggestions for the improvement of new optical based products and subsystems.
  • Shepherd the same systems and products through to production, offering advice and guidance to production test activities; building working relationships with production staff members.
  • Help to design, implement and sustain production testing fixtures and methods.
  • Help to carry out production test activities on complex optical systems, in line with requirements and procedures developed with the help of other R&D personnel and applications specialists.
  • Work to understand and address production issues related to opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Utilize measurement tools for mechanical assessment of componentry related to the tested assemblies to derive performance deficiency root causes.
  • Assist with testing of potential future technologies.
  • Perform test and measurement activities on mechanical actuators using laser interferometry.

Core skills and experience:

  • A good knowledge of optics is required and a qualification in physics or a related discipline would be beneficial.
